Holiday Recycling Opportunities
Holiday Lights
Do you have strands of holiday lights that don’t work? Are you switching to LEDs and wondering what to do with your old lights? Bring unwanted strands of lights to Ramsey City Hall at 7550 Sunwood Drive NW, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. A collection container will be available in the lobby from December 1 through the end of January 2027.
Don’t put them in your recycling cart, as they aren’t accepted in the curbside program. Holiday light strands can tangle in the sorting equipment at Material Recovery Facilities, where recyclables are processed.
Before bringing the lights in, remove them from any ‘framing’ (such as plastic frames used to form stars, snowmen, etc.). Those frames should be placed in the garbage. Other accepted items include extension cords, telephone cords, and appliance cords.
Extra Cardboard
The City is offering FREE cardboard recycling this holiday season—two dumpsters will be available at the old Public Works site at 14100 Jasper Street NW, from December 1 through the end of January 2027. All cardboard must be clean, broken down, and flattened. Other accepted materials include cereal boxes, newspapers, office paper, and magazines. This is a popular service so that the dumpsters may be full at times. If the dumpsters are full, please do not leave your cardboard on the ground. You may need to try another day.
If you have questions about holiday waste, please contact Senior Planner Chris Anderson at canderson@cityoframseymn.gov or 763-433-9817.
