Preserving Historic Town Hall

Exciting progress is underway in Ramsey! The City is taking the final steps to preserve a 133-year-old former schoolhouse and town hall along Highway 47, thanks to a new $39,500 Minnesota Historical & Cultural Heritage Grant.

Built in 1892 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this rare brick landmark is one of Anoka County’s best-preserved 19th-century public buildings. As Ramsey Community Development Director Stephanie Hanson said, “It’s one of the best preserved 19th-century rural public buildings in Anoka County. That makes it really historically significant for the state.”

The grant will help complete construction documents needed for the final phase of restoration—bringing updates like an accessible ramp, restroom, heating, and air conditioning.

Over the years, Ramsey has steadily invested in repairs, and this grant brings the community one step closer to fully preserving a building that reflects the city’s roots and unique character.
