The UL Research Institute’s Fire Safety Research Institute has conducted extensive research on lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery-powered devices.
In their research, they discovered that the failure of a single cell can trigger a thermal runaway, resulting in a raging fire or even a gas explosion. These fires are typically hotter and result in a shorter escape time from a burning structure.
