The Purple Lights Initiative

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), and the City of Ramsey is participating in The Purple Lights Initiative to raise awareness. Purple symbolizes courage, survival, and hope.

Throughout October, Ramsey City Hall will be lit with purple lights to signify a stand against domestic violence, show support for victims and survivors, pay tribute to lives lost, and encourage conversations within families and the community.

Many organizations in Ramsey support victims of violence. The Ramsey Police Department investigates domestic violence reports thoroughly and pursues criminal charges in such cases. They collaborate closely with Alexandra House, a violence prevention organization, to provide victims with vital resources and support. Alexandra House aims to empower victims of domestic and sexual violence while fostering social change through education and advocacy.

If you or someone you know has experienced domestic violence, please call 911 to report it. For additional resources, contact the Ramsey Police Department at 763-427-6812 or reach out to the Alexandra House 24-hour helpline at 763-780-2330.

Businesses and community members can demonstrate their support in the fight against domestic violence by illuminating purple lights or displaying a DVAM yard sign. Additionally, consider wearing purple on #PurpleThursday, which falls on Thursday, October 22, and share a photo on social media by tagging @AlexHouseMN.

For more information or to find resources on how to show your support, please contact Alexandra House at communications@alexandrahouse.org, call 763-795-5417, or visit their website at alexandrahouse.org.
