About the Fire Department

Our Mission

The Ramsey Fire Department is dedicated to protecting life and property in our community through emergency response, prevention, and education, with pride, honor, and integrity.

History

The Ramsey Fire Department provides emergency response services for all hazards, including—but not limited to—fires, medical emergencies, rescues, and accidental releases of hazardous materials. The Department also conducts code compliance inspections and reviews building plans for code compliance. Its community support programs include annual fire prevention training for elementary school students, fire education training for groups and businesses, and participation in neighborhood and youth programs. Anoka County dispatches the Department and participates in an automatic-aid system with surrounding community fire departments and in a statewide mutual-aid system.

The City has two fire stations, and the fire staff consists of full-time and paid-on-call firefighters. The Department is also a member of the Anoka County Fire Protection Council (ACFPC)  under a joint powers agreement. Some of the shared resources are a fire records management system, the Anoka County Fire Academy, the Specialized Rescue Team, and the Fire Investigation Team. Several members of the Ramsey Fire Department are members of the shared teams. Ramsey’s fire department was organized in 1988. Current staffing consists of over 50 paid-on-call firefighters as well as a full-time Fire Chief, a Deputy Chief of Operations and Logistics, a Deputy Fire Chief of Training, a Fire Marshal, a Fire Inspector, and a Fire Technician. 

We are honored that the Ramsey Fire Department was nominated by the Firefighters for Healing organization for the 2020 Fire Department of the Year Award and selected by the Minnesota State Fire Department Association Board as the winner.
