Outdoor Warning Sirens

Volunteer to be a siren watcher. The Ramsey Fire Department and City are seeking volunteers for their outdoor warning siren program to ensure the siren system functions properly during emergencies. Each site should ideally have at least one volunteer watcher. Currently, four locations urgently need volunteers.

Volunteers are required to commit just five minutes on the first Wednesday of each month to observe their assigned siren and another five minutes to report their findings to the Ramsey Fire Department. Having multiple observers for each siren is encouraged.

Key points to observe:

• Is there a solid sound within the first 60 seconds?
• Does the siren rotate for the first sound if it’s designed to?
• Is there a variable noise in the second 60 seconds?
• Does it rotate for the second sound if designed to?

Additionally, Anoka County has updated its siren software to allow targeted alerts based on National Weather Service information, enhancing public safety during severe weather events.
