Rights and Services For All Crime Victims

• You have the right to apply for financial help to cover losses resulting from a violent crime (excluding property loss). For application information, call 651-201-7300 or 888-622-8799 (TTY: 651-205-4827), or visit the Minnesota Crime Victims Reimbursement Program. 
• You have the right to request that the law enforcement agency withhold public access to data revealing your identity. The law enforcement agency will decide if this is possible. 
• You have the right to be notified if an offender is charged, to participate in the prosecution process, and to request restitution upon conviction.

Rights and Services for Domestic Violence Victims

If you have been the victim of domestic violence, you can file a petition with the court (763-760-6808) for an order for protection and ask that the person responsible for the domestic violence:

• Be restrained from further acts of abuse;
• Leave your household;
• Stay away from your residence, school, business, or place of employment; and
• Pay temporary support to you and for the minor child if the person is legally obligated to do so.

In your petition, you can request a custody and parenting time order for a child in common with the other person.

You have the right to be notified if the prosecution of the case is declined or criminal charges are dismissed.
