Mission Statement
The primary mission of this program is to expose young adults between the ages of 14 and 21
to the field of law enforcement and community service.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Explorers will be given classroom instructions and will be required to participate in
“hands‐on” role playing exercises. Qualified personnel will give all instructions in a
strictly controlled environment. - Explorers will assist with a variety of community functions such as: Ramsey Happy Days,
National Night Out, Safety Camp and other community activities. This includes
community oriented policing, traffic direction, public relations and other activities
prescribed by the Chief of Police. - Explorers shall participate in first aid and CPR training.
- Explorers will be allowed to ride along with licensed officers after a probationary period.
- General meetings: Explorers meetings will be held every other Sunday night from 6:00
p.m. to approximately 8:30 p.m. during the school year and less frequently in the summer.
General Application Requirements
- Must be between the ages of 14 (and completed the 8th grade) and 21.
- Must be enrolled in a school academic program and must maintain at least a “C”
average. - Must submit a criminal background check and an oral interview.
- Do NOT need to be a resident of Ramsey but must have a desire to serve the
community. - The Chief of Police has the final authority to accept or reject candidates based upon the
needs of the police department.
