Acceptable Materials

The curbside recycling program collects four broad categories of materials: paper, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles and containers (keep lids on), and metal/tin/aluminum cans. View a complete list of acceptable materials and preparation (PDF). Please empty and rinse items before placing them in the recycling cart.

Recyclable materials are collected on alternating Mondays for each half of the City. The City is currently divided into east and west zones along Sunfish Lake Boulevard and Nowthen Boulevard. View a map of the City. Recycling carts must be placed by the street before 6:30 a.m. on the scheduled collection day.

ACE Solid Waste Customer Convenience Center

Ramsey community members can access a Customer Convenience Center (CCC) where small quantities of recyclable materials can be dropped off at no charge. The CCC is located at ACE Solid Waste’s Transfer Facility, accessed from 141st Avenue, just west of Basalt Street. It is not accessible from McKinley Street. Please see the map to the CCC for instructions on accessing this site safely. The CCC is available 24 hours per day, seven days a week; however, due to the high volume of truck traffic entering ACE’s Transfer Facility, residents are strongly recommended to access the CCC in the evening (after business hours) or on weekends. Recyclable materials should be prepared in the same fashion as if they were placed in the recycling cart.

The CCC also has four carts available for organics recycling. If you recycle organics here, please follow all guidelines outlined on the City’s organics recycling webpage.

Both the recycling dumpster and the organics carts are clearly labeled. Please make sure that you place the materials in the proper receptacle. Absolutely no trash is accepted at the CCC. If you have extra trash that does not fit in your garbage cart, please contact your garbage hauler for options; do not bring it to the CCC.

Spring & Fall Drop-off Events

The City of Ramsey also sponsors two recycling day events. They are typically held on the first Saturday in May and the last Saturday in September. See details on the Spring/Fall Recycling events. These events allow residents to properly dispose of items not generally accepted through the curbside recycling program.

Holiday lights can be recycled at Ramsey City Hall at any time during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

A bin will be available to collect string lights, extension cords, and telephone and appliance cords during December and January. The lights recycling program is a great way to reduce waste going to landfills by capturing more material for recycling into new products, and it’s all done at no cost to you! 

Any ‘framing’ (the plastic framing used to form stars, snowmen, etc.) that the lights may be mounted on must be removed and disposed of in the garbage.
